The Free Hanseatic State of Bremen is the smallest in Germany, comprising the cities of Bremen and Bremerhaven. It is located in northern Germany, on the Weser River, and is surrounded by the German state of Lower Saxony. Bremen has a long history as a port city and is known for its coffee roasters, chocolatiers, beer and musicians. For more information, visit Bremen's German Language Web Site.

Having opened its doors in 1971, the University of Bremen is a young university by European standards. Like other German universities founded in the 70's, the University of Bremen saw itself as a "reform university" whose mission it was to revitalize German university education through the use of innovative forms of teaching and learning. Today, several of the characteristic aspects of the "Bremen Model" of university education are finding increasing acceptance, even among more traditional German and European educators; chief among them are interdisciplinarity and learner-centered, socially relevant, project-based approaches to learning. Learn more about the University by visitng its German Language Web Site

The Bremen Post-Secondary Language Center provides all language instruction for Bremen's university, polytechnical institutes (one in Bremen and one in Bremerhaven), and arts institute (in Bremen). The Language Center is very much a work in progress and doesn't have its own web site yet, but we'll let you know when it does.
